Overland Park Home CareOur Story

In 2009, Hearts at Home was founded by local husband and wife team, Mark and Leslie Schmitz. As active community members and senior care providers, they built the agency around the belief that the only way to provide the very best care is to take the time to get to know and really listen to the people you serve and those who love them. Mark and Leslie created a culture of reassurance that extends to all who know and work with the Hearts at Home team. At Hearts at Home, our goal is to help our clients stay safe wherever they call home, while helping them maintain their individuality, independence, dignity, and connection with others.

Our Mission

Hearts at Home seeks to provide the highest level of service, expertise, and safety to the older adults, disabled persons, families, and community we serve through compassionate, personalized, reliable, and attentive Overland Park home care.

Kansas City Regional Home Care Association logoHearts at Home is a proud member of the Kansas City Regional Home Care Association (KCRHCA), an organization that works closely with state and national associations to advocate for home care recipients and issues that benefit and protect them. KCRHCA believes that in-home care is an essential element in the continuum of quality health care and works to enhance and build upon our strong regional home care community.

Advanced Caregiver Training and Certification

When it comes to hiring caregivers, we believe that our clients deserve only the best. At Hearts at Home, we take proactive steps to ensure that our Kansas City home care team is extensively trained and certified so that they can provide top quality care, confidently, compassionately, and professionally.

Institute for Professional Care EducationTo fulfill this commitment, we have partnered with the Institute for Professional Care Education, a nationally renowned training and certification agency for caregiving professionals, to offer custom training programs to all of our caregivers. While most home care agencies only provide an average of 10 hours of general training, we provide over 120 hours of highly specialized in home caregiver training.

Our unique program offers three levels of training for our care staff:

  • Level 1, “Certified”, incorporates a variety of caregiver training tools to ensure skills stay sharp.
  • Level 2, “Specialized”, incorporates training in Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and end of life care.
  • Level 3, “Master Caregiver”, incorporates training in Parkinson’s disease, first aide, leadership, etc.
